ANC Women's League Condemns the Rampant Killings of People with Albinism
19/10/2015

The ANC Women's League detests and condemns the rampant abuse and brutal killings of people with albinism that has been taking place for several years in some parts of areas in Africa including South Africa.

People with albinism have been victims of killings, who have had their body parts mutilated allegedly for ritual purposes. There is currently a wide spread of killings under the myth of their body parts presumed to bring good luck or wealth by witchdoctors. Over 200 of them have been attacked mutilated or have had their graves being violated and not much has been done to put an end to these killings.

Many people with albinism either live in constant fear, judgement, prejudice and ridicule of their life. It is upon us as mothers elected to protect and serve this nation that we stand up and rise against this sordid belief.

We have always believed in a society that is inclusive of all kinds of diverse cultures, forms and nature that have the right to inhabit any land they wish to.

We remain resolute in the principles of the freedom charter which supports the right of all to live in a society free from prejudice, hate and oppression.

Our communities need to be educated to understand that a different pigmentation in the colour of skin does not mean one has to be feared, and that they too shed the same blood, breathe the same air and weep the same tears we weep.

This is a societal matter and cannot only be left upon the law enforcers, but let us work together to bring all slums of the nation to rot and allow perpetrators to see the hands of justice at its harshest clutch.

"An attack to the albino nation is an attack to all of society"
