ANC Bokone Bophirima statement on the 8th Provincial Conference

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirma held a watershed, historic and peaceful 8th Provincial Conference from the 12 to 15 February 2015 in Mahikeng Civic Centre. The conference was held under the theme: The year of freedom charter and unity in action to advance economic freedom.

Delegates and participants committed themselves and the movement to the continuous tasks of ensuring that the demands of our people, as expressed in the freedom charter 60 years ago are fulfilled as we celebrate this year of the Freedom Charter, 2015.

We commit the ANC in Bokone Bophirima to a strategic direction for a radical economic transformation as we continue to address the economic challenges facing our people in the Province .To this end ,we will seek a review of section 228 of the constitution of the Republic of South Africa Act.108 of 1996 and all relevant legislations, to ensure that those provinces which host the mineral wealth our country, are not disadvantaged or left with derelict towns and cities long after mining has ceased.

The Conference therefore mandates the incoming PEC to sponsor and lobby other affected provinces, so that we must proportionately benefit as provinces, which host the mines. The poverty of communities and the continued conflicts in mining areas is a consequence of the deficiencies of our legislative framework.

We have assessed the state of our municipalities in the Province and given the uneven performance of some of our municipalities we commend the government for adopting the "back to basics" document as part of improving service delivery, we direct the government to the alignment of the Annual Performance Plans(APP's) of the provincial departments and the Municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) so that we can achieve the implementation of the objectives as set out in our National Development Plan (NDP).We applaud the provincial Government for initiating the process of integrated service delivery approach of IDP and Provincial plans through the implementation of the Setsokotsane programme.

We reiterate our commitment to unity and cohesion of our movement with single minded focus on ensuring that branches of the ANC in the Province become the beacon of hope and transformation free from infighting and disunity.

We will strive to continuously build a revolutionary and strong alliance capable of forging ahead with the programme of radical socio-economic transformation, in this "decade of the cadre" and the year of the Freedom Charter. We will build competent politically conscious cadres through heightened political education to ensure that our branches are vibrant and able to fulfil the demands of the Freedom Charter and advance the imperatives of the national democratic revolution.

We renew our trust in, and will defend the collective leadership of the NEC of the ANC against the rise of anarchic counter revolutionary adventurist and anti-majoritarian onslaught whose objective is to liquidate our movement, revolution and collapse the ANC government.

We are more than ready for the upcoming local Government elections in 2016 and we will mobilise all our communities for a decisive ANC victory .We commit to harness the collective capabilities, skills and experience of all our cadres to ensure that we advance our programmes as decided by conference.

We are inspired and welcome in this year of the Freedom Charter the reburial of our leaders, Moses Kotane, J.B.Marks and MK operative-Richard Lentsela. We owe our freedom to them and in their honour we commit ourselves to build an organisation with capable cadres always ready to serve our people with distinction.

Lastly we want to thank our National Chairperson Cde. Baleka Mbete for the key note speech that was informative and educational, NEC deployees, alliance partners SACP, COSATU, SANCO and all other MDM formations for their calls for unity and growth.
