SERVICE DELICRY PROTESTS IN THE NORTH WEST IS NOT A JUSTIFICATION OF ANARCHY, LAWLESSNESS AND ENTRENCHMENT OF CRIMINALITY
16/04/2014
African National Congress Youth League

We, the Youth League of the African National Congress, declare for all our country and the world to know: the freedom of our people was earned through bloodshed where selfless and collective leadership of the ANC and ANCYL stood through the test of time to achieve.

All service delivery protest mushrooming across the North West Province, some genuine and some politically motivated constitute serious constitutional flaws by the very same people who are using our constitution to justify their anarchic conduct and criminal entrenchment. What is happening in Bloemhof, Bodibe, Mothutlung and many other parts of the province is a clear demonstration of serious systematic agenda which seeks to depict our country as a country without leadership.

There is a clear demonstration that the-so-called EFF is spear heading all these violent protests across the province as part of their political electioneering. As the youth league of the ANC we will name and shame those we have identified because some were once part of our movement and they thought they were better by the time they were elected by our branches.

The South African Constitution, chapter two (bill of right) section 10 defines the rights of people and section 36 also clarifies the limitation of those rights. It can not be justified by any means that one must violate the rights of others in order to justify your conduct or your action. Burning of council properties, cllr's house and damage business properties of other people living in our province is an attempt of treason and it must be treated as such.

After burning those houses, stealing/ looting businesses does it resolve the problem of service delivery and why then must our government negotiate with missionaries who are attempting to overthrow our government. A young person was shot-dead attempting to loot in a liquor store, one wonder how that is related to service delivery complaints or is that bottle store a council office. All these are an indication that those who have been threatening to make our country ungovernable are now on the move and as young people of the liberation movement (ANC) we will not be bystanders.

As for Uncle Ronnie Kasrils we would like to place a formal request to him, "Your personal hatred towards President Zuma and his collective since Polokwane conference is starting to become a paranoia to you and may be you should get yourself checked." sometimes when adults get old they start to lose their mind and we hope is not the case with Uncle Ronnie. To call on citizens to spoil their ballot papers or just not participate in a hard-won democratic process is a behaviour unbecoming of an ANC member. The right to vote is that right that Tata Nelson Mandela fought and died for and that right cannot be auctioned for cheap politicking. It is very clear that Uncle Ronnie want to campaign for smaller parties like he said but that cannot be done on the expenses of the ANC.

What the ANCYL will fight and seek to prevent is the formation of organised groupings that actively subvert the integrity of the movement and threaten its unity. It seeks to prevent conscious activity that has the effect of undermining decision collectively taken by the movement. In the balance between "democracy" and "centralism" the movement leans towards the former but at the same time the ANC cannot tolerate open sabotage of its struggle on the basis that Uncle Ronnie is not part of the NEC.

The ANC Youth League re-iterates its call to all young people to vote the ANC on Wednesday, 07 May 2014.
