ANC Bokone Bophirima confident of Dlamini-Zuma win

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima is resolute about its support for Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to be elected ANC president. If she wins the race - which at the moment appears to be between her and outgoing ANC Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa - Dlamini-Zuma would be the first female president of Africa's oldest liberation movement turned governing party.

A total of 4 776 voting delegates are expected to cast their votes in groups of 200 sometime this evening. This process will start with nominations for leadership candidates and in a case where there are only two nominees left, a candidate will need 2 389 or more votes to win the presidential seat.

Bokone Bophirima will have 446 delegates casting their votes for the new leadership after 92 had their voting status changed.

ANC Bokone Bophirima Provincial Chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo, said the province is still confident about Dlamini-Zuma's victory. He, in fact, said Dlamini-Zuma would be ANC President by tomorrow.

"Remember we are the one who said to the NEC 'please exclude these branches, exclude these delegates'. We have appealed to the court, but we didn't want to insist on them being included because there is an agenda to destabilize the African National Congress by outside antagonistic forces, which are pushing imperialism and they're using grievance within the ANC to then drive that agenda within the party. We wanted to deny them that opportunity. That's why we said 'exclude these numbers'. For us it doesn't matter really those particular numbers. They're insignificant. And I'm happy that those comrades have accepted the decision ...they are here as observers," Mahumapelo said.

He said leadership contest was all about lobbying and convincing one another.

"Remember we work with precision and we are experienced in this thing of politics and using 'Through the eye of the needle' to lobby. So Comrade Nkosazana is going to be the President by tomorrow".

Regardless of who wins the elections, Mahumapelo said uniting the ANC was more important.

"We have already spoken to her [Dlamini-Zuma] about not being triumphalist. We've already spoken to Comrade Cyril and herself Mme Nkosazana, so the approach for the two of them is the same, to say extend a hand. That is why when we lost 52 delegates through the court's decision as a province, we volunteered their exclusion from voting because the numbers were just too huge for us to worry," said the ANC Bokone Bophirima Provincial Chairperson.
