ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA ON THE RELEASE OF PUBLIC WORKS MEC CDE MADODA SAMBATHA FROM THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT EXCO
02/06/17
Dakota Legoete

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima welcomes the release from office of Cde Madoda Sambatha as a Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works and Roads.

The ANC received a comprehensive report from Premier Supra Mahumapelo on Monday last week regarding allegations of fraudulent sale of government land against MEC Sambatha. The PEC Officials then met Cde Sambatha the following day [on a Tuesday]. In that meeting he acknowledged that indeed the fraudulent document bore his signature and said he was misled.

The PEC Officials then met with NEC Officials over the matter and briefed the SACP National and Provincial Office bearers.

Another meeting was convened by the ANC Bokone Bophirima PEC Officials with Cde Sambatha yesterday [Wednesday 31 May 2017] and the outcome of that was reported to a PEC meeting today.

The PEC then took the following decisions:
1. The MEC must resign from his position, failing which, the Premier
must release him. 2. A wider investigation must be undertaken, looking into other land
transactions. 3. The ANC leadership in Bokone Bophirima will meet the SACP to discuss
this matter further. 4. Cde Sambatha should be taken through an ANC disciplinary process.
