ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA REACTS TO THE OUTCOME OF THE COLIGNY MURDER CASE BAIL APPLICATION
08/05/2017

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima is disappointed at the granting of bail to two Coligny farmers accused of murder.

Pieter Doorenwaard (26) and Phillip Schutte (32) were granted bail of R5000 each today [Monday 8 May 2017] by the Coligny Magistrate's Court. The duo was arrested after handing themselves over to police, claiming that the deceased Matlhomola Mosweu (16) jumped out of their moving vehicle when they were on the their way to the police station to report him for stealing sunflower from their employer's farm.

Even though we are disappointed as the movement, we respect the law and decisions of the court and wish to express the ANC's full confidence in the judicial system of the country. We remain hopeful that once investigations are concluded, justice will be served.

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima calls for peace and calm in the area and further wishes to discourage any form of behaviour that can lead to fresh violence and unrest because of the outcome of the bail hearing.

We once again express our sympathy and condolences to the bereaved Mosweu family and the community of Coligny at large. The ANC also supports remarks made by its Provincial Chairperson Cde Supra Mahumapelo - in his capacity as Premier of Bokone Bophirima - when he told mourners at Matlhomola Mosweu's funeral on Sunday (07 May 2017) that the Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal programme should be launched in Coligny to heal the communities living there.
