ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA SENDS CONDOLENCES TO FAMILIES OF VICTIMS OF THE WOLMARANSTAD CAR ACCIDENT
09/04/2017
Dakota Legoete

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima is saddened by the loss of life as a result of a road accident that occurred 10km outside Wolmaranstad last night (8 April 2017). The ANC wishes to pass sincere condolences to families of the deceased and wish them strength during this time of sorrow.

It is reported that a minibus taxi and an SUV vehicle collided head-on and that the taxi caught fire after the accident, leaving many victims badly burnt. So far 12 people, including the two drivers, are reported to have died. The information at hand is that the passengers of the minibus taxi were members of the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) who were returning home to Wolmaranstad from a church service in Mahikeng.

The ANC is saddened that this horrifying accident took place just a few days before Good Friday and Easter weekend, the big weekend on our Christian calendar that many of us use to spend time with family, praying and remembering the death of Jesus Christ. Sadly for the bereaved families, they will not be able to do that. The ANC in Bokone Bophirima wants to assure the families of the movement's support.

The ANC provincial leadership humbly requests the people of Bokone Bophirima to support the bereaved families throughout this mourning period. We call upon all motorists to drive safely, reduce speed, avoid reckless overtaking, share the roads wisely and ensure that their vehicles are in a good condition.

The ANC further appeals to the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management to impose harsh punishment on motorists who behave in an unlawful manner on our roads because they in most instances contribute to these horrible accidents.

The ANC has got confidence in the SAPS to conduct a thorough investigation and get to the bottom of what caused this painful accident.
