ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA POST-PEC OFFICIALS MEETING STATEMENT

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima met in an ordinary Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) Officials meeting on Monday 21 November 2016 and discussed several issues ranging from party political matters to governance issues.

The Officials' meeting took the following resolutions:

REGIONAL CONFERENCES

In preparing for the 2016 Regional Conferences to be held before the end of the year, the ANC PEC Officials have urged members to exercise high discipline and allow proper processes in line with the Constitution of the ANC to unfold.

We urge members of all our regions to desist from participating in tedious acts of ill-discipline. Members should take heed of challenges such as gatekeeping and allow all members of the ANC in good standing the right to choose their own leadership.

The ANC PEC Officials expressed full confidence in the soon to be elected revolutionary structures of the ANC, who we believe will ensure that a robust political consciousness is awakened and that a unified form of engine capacity in the ANC is effectively achieved.

AUDITOR GENERAL'S REPORT ON GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENTS

We welcome the report of the Auditor General on audit opinions for all our province's government departments. Even if some departments have regressed to a qualified audit opinion, we appreciate the hard work put in by the Department of Finance Economy and Enterprise Development, which received a clean audit for the current financial year. This is the second department that works tirelessly to ensure that it leads in securing and accounting for public finances. We are thankful for the departments that managed to improve to an unqualified audit opinion for the current financial year and urge others to work towards improving.

The improved audit outcomes are a clear indication that our government is striving towards a clean audit that will ultimately transalate into better services for the people of our province.

The ANC believes in transparency and accountability and we will ensure that the legislative arm of government exercises its oversight mandate on the management of public coffers and also provide political leadership for effective consequence management.

THE CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER TRIAL AGAINST GAASITE LEGALATLADI

The ANC PEC Officials reiterated support for Provincial Chairperson Cde Supra Mahumapelo in the conspiracy to murder trial against former councillor Gaasite Legalatladi. The case has been postponed to June 2017.

We encourage members of the ANC to respect decisions taken by the leadership instead of degrading not only themselves, but also the people of the province.

We still urge the accused Legalatladi to reveal names of her accomplices in the plot to murder our Provincial Chairperson, so that the intended malicious and inhumane acts of greed can be dealt with accordingly by the law.

We believe in the system of a just and fair law enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic that will take precedence whenever anyone is found guilty of an offence.
