ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA OFFICIALS CALL FOR DISCIPLINARY ACTION AGAINST CDE JACKSON MTHEMBU

Officials of the African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in Bokone Bophirima met on Monday 24 October 2016 in Wolmaranstad in a scheduled meeting.

Among the crucial issues that were discussed was the utterances by ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) member and ANC Chief Whip in Parliament, Jackson Mthembu, when he called for the entire ANC NEC to resign.

The Officials found Cde Jackson's statements unfortunate and bordering on disrespecting the decisions of the movement, the same decisions that he was part of. We are therefore of the view that the ANC NEC should consider disciplinary action against Cde Jackson for bringing the party into disrepute and creating a picture of a divided leadership that lacks direction.

As an ANC Chief Whip in Parliament, Cde Jackson is the custodian of party discipline and is supposed to provide leadership to hundreds of MPs. By behaving in a manner that he did, Cde Jackson failed to provide the required leadership, not only to MPs, but also to other Chief Whips who look up to him as the most senior Chief Whip of the party.

While we respect that everyone has got the right to express their views, Cde Jackson needs to remember that the ANC has got rules that bind every member, especially a leader of his stature who even served as NEC spokesperson.
