ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA ON THE OUTCOMES OF ITS PEC OFFICIALS' MEETING

Officials of the African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in Bokone Bophirima met today, Monday 17 October 2016, in Matlosana and discussed a range of issues including the state of the organization and current affairs in the country.

The meeting resolved to hold an extended Special PEC meeting on Friday, 21 October 2016, to reflect on current national political issues. The PEC will use the Friday meeting to also agree on and then state our position on the attacks directed at the President of the Republic of South Africa, who is also ANC President, Cde Jacob Zuma.

The Monday Officials' meeting also resolved on the following:

We stand by our Provincial Chairperson and Premier of Bokone Bophirima Cde Supra Mahumapelo, on a criminal case against former ANC councillor Gaasite Legalatladi, who's been charged with conspiracy to murder our Provincial Chairperson.

The Officials noted the National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) decision to summon Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan to appear in court on 2 November on several charges. We recognize the anxiety that this has caused and call for calm across the province and the country. As the preamble of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa proclaims: we are all equal before the law. It is our view that Cde Pravin Gordhan must subject himself to the rule of law as everyone is expected to, and not behave in a manner that casts aspersions on law enforcement agencies and other state organs. We believe that as a sitting public office bearer who took an oath of office, Cde Gordhan understands that he remains innocent until and unless proven otherwise and should cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

The ANC must investigate a worrying posture by some individual leaders in the National Executive Committee and Cabinet, who are possibly working with the opposition to attack President Zuma in order to weaken the ANC.

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima will intensify our OR Tambo Organisational Repositioning and Renewal Programme in this month of October, as part of celebrating the heritage and the legacy Cde OR Tambo left for us.

We commend Congress of Traditional Leaders (Contralesa) in Bokone Bophirima for a successful Provincial General Council over the weekend. We are pleased by Contralesa's resolution of not being part of counter-revolutionary efforts to form a new political party by some traditional leaders.

We further extend our appreciation and congratulate the newly elected provincial leadership of the South African Local Government Association in the Bokone Bophirima, led by Cde Fetsang Mokati, Executive Mayor of Bojanala District Municipality.

We urge students in tertiary institutions to return to class and allow their leaders to engage relevant stakeholders on the funding of free education for deserving students. In this regard, we support the campaign by Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government to mobilise the public sector and citizens at large to contribute to Kgetsi Ya Tsie Bursary and Skills Development Fund to assist in educating students from our province.

The Officials also applaud the Provincial Government on the Villages Townships and Small Dorpies (VTSD) initiative of igniting the economies of our previously disadvantaged areas.

We humbly urge the South African Communist Party (SACP) to act in a manner that will enhance its role as the vanguard of the working class instead of behaving in a reckless and sensationalist manner. As our alliance partner, the SACP has got access to all ANC leaders and therefore, a platform to raise any dissatisfaction the organization may have with the ANC and its leadership.
