ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA WELCOMES PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA'S PAYMENT OF THE R7.8M TOWARDS NKANDLA UPGRADES

The African National Congress (ANC) in Bokone Bophirima welcomes the news from the Presidency that President Jacob Zuma has settled the R7.8 million [R7 814 155.00] agreed upon with the National Treasury. This was with regards to security upgrades at his private home in Nkandla.

President Zuma's act of complying with the Constitutional Court judgement is evidence that here we have a Head of State who respects the Judiciary and the laws of South Africa.

We are proud as the ANC that we can stand tall and count President Zuma among the movement's leaders such as Cde Nelson Mandela who when called upon to respond to the courts of law, do so with the necessary integrity and prove that they are first and foremost citizens of South Africa before becoming Heads of State.

We have never had any doubt that the President was willing to cooperate with the court and honour its judgement. We also welcome the transparency with which this payment - raised through a home loan the President obtained himself - was made and communicated to South African citizens.

We thank the President of our movement Cde Zuma for finally putting this matter to rest so that he may concentrate on the crucial task at hand, that of leading South Africans to a better life under the ANC government.
