ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA RESPONSE TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL JUDGEMENT ON THE VOTERS' ROLL
17/06/2016

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima welcomes the judgement delivered by the Constitutional Court on Tuesday 14 June 2016, which gave the 3 August local government elections a go-ahead. The Concourt's judgement is a demonstration that the people's right to vote needs to be protected and upheld and as Bokone Bophirima ANC we are satisfied about that part.

We also note the court's ruling regarding the state of the voters' roll, which needs to be fixed, particularly with voters' addresses. We are happy that this puts to rest a matter that has been a point of different interpretations and to a certain extent, used by some to try and choke the people's democratic right to choose who to vote.

We urge government and municipalities to work hard to ensure that all South Africans have got verifiable addresses to assist the IEC to meet its 18-month deadline of capturing all the required information on the voters' roll. To this end, we will work with especially Tlokwe Local Municipality to ensure that our people who do not have physical addresses are helped before the August poll.

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima would also like to encourage voters across the province to ensure that they work with the IEC to update their details, so as to protect their hard-won right to vote.
