ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA'S RESPONSE ON THE POSTPONEMENT OF SIX BY-ELECTIONS IN TLOKWE
23/02/2016
Dakota Legoete

The ANC notes the judgement of the Electoral Court that ruled that the Independent Electoral Commission postpone by-elections in six of the seven Tlokwe wards that were scheduled for tomorrow.

The wards that are affected by this judgement are 1, 4, 11, 12, 18 and 20. The by-election in Ward 13 will continue as planned tomorrow between the ANC and only one opposition party.

ANC Bokone Bophirima provincial secretary Dakota Legoete said the ANC will abide by the court ruling and "we still express confidence in the IEC to address all the concerns that have been raised within the stipulated period".

"We are going to win these by-elections whether they are held tomorrow or after six weeks.

Our opponents have simply postponed their defeat and pain by securing this judgement," said Legoete.

"We call upon our people of Tlokwe to remain positive and trust that the ANC would continue to fight to protect their right to vote. We remain upbeat and we will continue to work hard to reclaim Tlokwe," Legoete added.

ANC Bokone Bophirima provincial chairperson Supra Mahumapelo said: "The ANC accepts the ruling by the court on this matter and urges the IEC to speedily prepare for the elections as pronounced."

Mahumapelo said all the ANC's energies were now directed towards "a total onslaught" in ward 13 tomorrow.

"We will forever be ready for victory because we are sure of the work we have done".

Beyond this, "the ANC will continue to intensify the campaign and ensure that issues that need to be addressed with communities are dealt with. The ANC will never be demoralised by the court ruling. We are instead more energized than before. The only quench of our thirst is nothing else but the victory that we know is certain.
