ANC BOKONE BOPHIRIMA MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE MISUSE OF COMRADE NHLANHLA NENE BY THE OPPOSITION
08/02/2016
Dakota Legoete

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima wishes to register its concerns about the continuous misuse of Comrade Nhlanhla Nenes's name by opposition parties for their narrow political objectives. The Economic Freedom Fighters have expressed their plans to interrupt this week's important State Of the Nation Address by President Jacob Zuma if he does not give them the answers they want for their misdirected questions on the decision to relieve Comrade Nene from his former job as Minister of Finance. The President has sufficiently answered and clarified questions on his decision on Comrade Nene and owes the EFF no further explanation. President Zuma, just like his predecessors did during their terms, has reshuffled his Cabinet in the past, so we find it suspicious that EFF has isolated Comrade Nene to use for their campaign against President Zuma.

We are however worried that Comrade Nene's name is been used to further a dubious political agenda by this party, whose only objective is to destabilize the progressive and good work done by the ANC - led government. The EFF will stop at nothing in their desperate attempt to make news headlines by pulling stunts similar to what they did during last year's State of the Nation Address.

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima therefore calls on Comrade Nene to condemn the misuse of his good name and distance himself from any acts meant to tarnish President Zuma's name. We believe Comrade Nene - being a disciplined cadre of the ANC who was deployed by the party in the finance portfolio that we believe he handled well - should not be used to attack the ANC. He cannot be used to mobilise against the ANC by these shallow political opponents who look for every little opportunity to discredit the ANC and its president.

The ANC in Bokone Bophirima further calls on Parliament to ensure that this crucial occasion - the SONA - and the dignity of the National Assembly are protected from any acts of anarchy come Thursday.
